Bumps On Hairline Symptoms: Causes And How To Get Rid Of It?

In medical parlance, the term scalp folliculitis is used to describe bumps on the hairline. The condition is quite irritating because it gives inflicts pain and itchiness on the patient and at the same time gives the individual a bad look.

The condition is associated with pimples in the form of bumps developing along the hairline due to fungal or factorial invasion of the hair follicle.

At their early stage of development when they are really inflamed, these hair bumps take a red color. But with time, the lesion changes color to yellow and the secrets pus. Depending on the severity of the condition, the bumps can cover the entire hairline. Follicular bumps can develop on any part of the skin where hair grows.

Hair follicles on the scalp are mostly affected by this condition due to the high density of hair there. Bumps that develop along the hairlines can either be simple pimples produced as a result of excessive oil production or bacterial infection. Bumps are mostly found on the frontal part of the hairline and can also develop on the back side.

Causes of Bumps developing on the hairline

This condition is prevalent in adults. It affects both men and women alike. There are two major factors responsible for lesions growing on the hairline. They are:

  • Excessive production of oil within the follicular gland which eventually leads to pimple kind of growth.
  • Bacterial infection which affects the root of the hair. Staphylococcus aureus is the bacterial responsible for this condition.

Other less common factors responsible for the development of bumps along the hairline include; changes in body hormone, excessive use of cosmetics and allergy to hair dyes. In extreme cases, bacterial infection of the scalp leads to complete hair loss.

Home remedies to get rid of bumps growing on the hairline

Moderate or mild bumps do not require any form of treatment as they will naturally disappear after a week. But if the bumps are caused by bacterial infection, then anti-fungal or anti-bacterial therapy will be needful.

Below are some of the natural home remedies that can be used in getting rid of the bumps.

  • If you have fallen victim of the condition, get your hair and scalp washed with shampoo nothing less than 3 times a week. If it happens that fungal infection is responsible for your own condition, then you will have to wash your hair and scalp with anti-fungal shampoo.
  • Tea oil is an effective solution used in the treatment of most common bacterial infection. Mix your shampoo with a little quantity of tea tree oil. Then wash your hair using the mixture for at least 3 times a week.
  • To ease the itching caused by the infection, mix vinegar with warm water and then apply on the scalp. Doing this speeds up healing.
  • Aloe Vera also works wonders in relieving the itching and irritation caused by bumps growing on the hairline. Be free with it when applying it on the affected scalp.
  • If the bumps still persist even after observing this treatment technique, then medical consultation should be sought. Prescription ranges from antibiotics to anti fungal ointment. Oral antibiotics can be prescribed if the bacterial infection is the severe one.
